2020 Copper River Salmon Harvesters Roundtable

 In News

Representatives from each salmon harvest user group are invited to come together at a Copper River Salmon Harvesters Roundtable to be held in Tazlina, Copper Basin, on February 20 – 21, 2020. We’re inviting salmon harvesters to gather and discuss on-the-water conditions, fish, and fishery observations — what changes are you seeing over your seasons of fishing?

How can salmon harvesters coordinate their voices to support more research on how ocean conditions may affect your fisheries, for research needs across the Copper River watershed, and for sharing accurate information that affects all users?  Dipnetters, subsistence fish wheel users, sports fishermen and guides, and drift gill net fishermen are all invited to participate. Your expenses for traveling to the Copper Basin will be covered.

If you are interested in participating in the Roundtable, please contact the CRWP at (907)424-3334 or send us an e-mail message. Funding for this Roundtable gathering is provided by the North Pacific Research Board to facilitate scientific research outreach.

To learn more about the earlier Roundtables, held in December, 2017 at the Board of Fish meeting, and in February, 2019, notes are available here:  December, 2017 and February, 2019.

For more background, here’s a short paper written in 2017 that introduces the idea and gives a bit of background on how it’s set up and what we hope to achieve by supporting dialogue among salmon harvesters.
