CRWP partners with CRNA, Ahtna, Inc., and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Youth Programs for a teen invasive plant management introduction.

Our Watershed Stewardship Program Manager, Amanda Jackson, presented an invasive plant program and plant I.D. introduction for teens working and learning about natural resource management in the Copper Basin.

The program showed the importance of partnership connections in addressing watershed-scale issues like invasive plant management. Participants included students from the Youth Environmental Training Initiative with Copper River Native Association, the Ahtna Youth Interns with Ahtna Incorporated, and the Youth Conservation Core and Student Conservation Association with Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve.

This experience gave teens the opportunity to learn and implement invasive plant management practices. They discovered how to identify highly ranked invasive plants and collected data in a mock survey. The fourteen participants went home with goodie bags filled with boot brushes, invasive plant reporter cards, Alaska Invasive Plant Pocket ID guides, and other helpful resources to continue their interest in tackling unwanted pesky plants!
