Youth Environmental Summit (YES) 2024

CRWP was a proud sponsor of the Copper Basin YES event!

The annual Youth Environment Summit (YES) event involves youth from K-8th grade in environmental sciences, climate adaptations, natural resource management, and educational activities to help introduce them to the lands around us.

CRWP Invasive Plant Program Manager Amanda Jackson and CRNA/CRWP Climate Change Coordinator Colleen Merrick attended the event and led two stations daily throughout the three-day event. Youth practiced invasive plant preventative methods through an activity that involved “brushing” the plant parts off onto socks overtop their hiking shoes while “hiking” around the area. They also engaged in a life-sized board game activity that led them through fish passage culverts and experienced storytelling with the resources found on our lands.

We thank the Native Village of Gakona for providing this experience for Copper Basin youth and for reaching over ten organizations far and wide in this annual event from Anchorage-Glennallen to Fairbanks.
