Groups Seek Citizen Oversight of Trans-Alaska Pipeline
Anchorage Daily News-Environmentalists, fishermen and others in the Copper River region are spearheading a new effort to boost citizen monitoring of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline. For now, it's hard to tell if their work will pay off. But recently, they've made some headway: A leader within the group, Cordova-based Copper River Watershed Project, received a grant from the federal government's pipeline oversight agency to develop a plan to improve citizen monitoring of the 800-mile line.

The Copper River Watershed Project is pleased to announce that we are part of the PFD Charitable Contributions Program for 2010. The Alaska Legislature passed a law in 2008 making this new way to give possible for all Alaskans filing for their PFD on-line. We are excited about the opportunity that it provides for all Alaskans to give to their favorite nonprofit organizations in a safe, secure and easy way. New scholarship for graduating seniors in the Copper River watershed

The Copper River Watershed Project is excited to release a new scholarship program for graduating seniors from the watershed. A total of two scholarships will be awarded to one graduating student from an upriver school and one graduating student from downriver. Homeschool students in the region are also eligible to apply.

Chantelle Pence recognized with environmental award

Chantelle Pence is being recognized for her commitment to environmental stewardship in the Copper Valley. She will receive an Environmental Achievement Award for individual contributions to improving the environment at the Alaska Tribal Conference on Environmental Management in mid-November.
