Students from across the Copper Valley are invited to participate in the second annual Youth Environmental Summit (YES).  The summit will be held in Chistochina on May 27 and 28 and include an overnight camping experience.  The two days will be packed full of hands-on activities that empower youth participation in sustainable activities.  Students will explore local food options and benefits of supporting local farmers, participate in a sustainable farm field trip, engage in arts & crafts and games that expand their understanding of sustainability, learn how to be better stewards of the earth, and contribute to community service projects.  Students in first through eighth grade are invited to be participants.   The Native Village of Gakona is coordinating the summit with partners including Native Village of Tazlina, Mt. Sanford Tribal Consortium, Copper Valley Development Association, Copper River Watershed Project, Wrangell Institute for the Environment, Copper River Basin Child Advocacy Center, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve, Parents as Teachers, and several other agencies and individuals.
