In 1998 and 1999 we asked residents of the watershed what they value about living in the watershed and what their priorities are for the future (1998-99 responses). They said they want their communities to stay economically viable, with healthy small businesses, safe streets and schools for their kids, and good medical facilities. The same residents value living in small towns in beautiful, rural Alaskan settings. They prize the recreation opportunities that are virtually "right outside the door." They want a voice in determining local priorities, and in the use of their resources. Watershed citizens value the freedom of opportunity they believe they have.
